Today’s Bible Reading:
Genesis 32; Mark 3; Esther 8; Romans 3: Proverbs 31

Oh, the Proverbs 31 woman-that elusive, hard to live up to ideal.  “An excellent wife who can find?  For her worth is far above jewels.  The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.  She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.” -Proverbs 31:11-12, NASB  I was really convicted about my attitude when it came to my husband last year.  You see we have very differing ideas on what “clean” is.  It was time for an attitude check and a little rearranging of priorities on my part and I began to lift up prayers of thanksgiving as I went about my day: that I have a husband who leaves messes behind rather than grumbling about the messes he leaves.  I realized I would much rather have this man in my life than a life where I missed his presence.  I became thankful that I had this wonderful man and focused on him rather than the little messes around the house.  Now when I catch myself starting to grumble that new habit races to the front of my mind.  And ladies, let me tell you he has noticed-I have been in his presence when he tells people how he has improved with age.  He then goes on to say something like –“It used to be when I cleaned the kitchen my wife would say I had made a good start, then she got to the point where she realized my idea of clean and hers were not that close and she just lived with it, but now she is actually thanking God for a husband who leaves messes behind.”  It is his way of acknowledging in my presence that he has noticed and appreciates the change in attitude.  I guess his wife became less of a dripping faucet always on his case about the issue.  After 33 years of marriage I might just be beginning to understand what it means to be an excellent wife.  May I do him good and not evil all the days of my life.

Grace, peace, and mercy,
Debra

Today’s Bible Reading:
Genesis 31; Mark 2; Esther 7; Romans 2: Proverbs 30

I am simply thinking about Jacob’s words in Genesis 31:10 and feeling likewise unworthy of all the lovingkindness and all the faithfulness which the Lord has shown to me, His servant.  Looking back over my life and seeing His gentle, loving hand in so many ways.  Even when I was unfaithful, selfish, full of sin-He has always been faithful, kind and loving to me.  I shall be forever grateful and hope I never forget His tender mercies as I continue to press on.

Grace, peace, and mercy,
Debra

 Today’s Bible Reading:
Genesis 30; Mark 1; Esther 6; Romans 1: Proverbs 29

Romans was written by Paul to the church at Rome, and as I read the first chapter this morning, the importance of Paul’s letter for us today hit me as it does every time I come to this letter.  In the midst of this horribly broken, fallen world we are the righteous who live by faith.  We are the ones whom God has called out of that darkness to walk in the light of His great love for us.  In the midst of the world in which we live,  we must say like Paul, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God I revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘But the righteous shall live by faith.’” (-Romans 1:16-17, NASB)  In our crooked and perverse generation there is still hope for everyone who believes.  The Good News is still the greatest news the world has ever heard and I need not be ashamed of it.  God has given me the faith I need to be faithful while I walk this earth.  May He indeed find me faithful.

Grace, peace, and mercy,
Debra
