Today’s Bible Reading:
Genesis 12; Matthew 11; Nehemiah 1; Acts 11: Proverbs 11
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30, NASB
Come to Me. That was the name of a Bible I earned in Sunday School way back in my preteen years. It is packed away in a box with some other childhood treasures. Matthew 11:28 made me think of it. I read that young readers Bible from cover to cover many times as I came to sit at Jesus feet even then. I answered the call to take His yoke upon myself and learn from Him. I am still learning.
2017 was a year of weariness and heavy burden and through it all Jesus gave me rest-He quieted my spirit and gave strength to my mind and body. He gave me strength to rest in Him if that makes sense. I struggle at times with His statement, “For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” There are times it does not feel easy nor the burden light. We enter 2018 with the same heavy burden as last year, but it is only heavy and wearisome when I try to carry it in my own strength.
May I daily answer as He calls, “Come to Me.”
