Oh Esau.  The man who gave up his birthright for a bowl of food.  (You'll find his story in Genesis 25:24-34) As I read that passage, I wondered how often I am tempted to do the same thing.  I have an incredible birthright really, the one I gained when I was born again as a daughter of the King.  Oh, what peace and joy await!  Yet far too often I do not value it the way I should and am willing to settle for lesser things in my day to day.  How often I have wanted the easy route instead of the path that God had put me on.  While I am pretty sure I would not trade heaven, I have to confess that I do sometimes trade His best for something that fills a temporary spot in my life. Just what is it I hunger for?

I am going through the process of simplifying my life which includes decluttering my home.  I have held on to so many things over the years, especially in my closet, that really serve no purpose other than to add to my stress.  I wonder what it would be like to “declutter” my spiritual life-to truly let go and let God.  Hopefully I’ll have more to share on that as the year progresses.  For now my physical closet has lost about 80% of it’s inhabitants and it feels so good to just be down to what is essential and actually fits my lifestyle.  Everything in there is something I want to wear.  Imagine living life with God that way; realizing that everything He provides is more than enough and the best is yet to come.  To live in such a way that obedience is not a difficult sacrifice but an absolute joy.

May grace, peace, and mercy from God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ be upon you dear reader.
