Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 28; 2 Peter 2: Micah 5; Luke 14

As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be courageous and act.” -1 Chronicles 28:9-10

David’s advice to his son Solomon is great advice for us as well.  It sounds rather like the first and greatest commandment that Jesus talks about: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. (Matthew 26:37)  I do love how David closes those remarks-“be courageous and act.”  He repeats that later on in verse 20.

Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.

For those of us who love the Lord and serve Him with a whole heart and willing mind, we are known by God,
He is always with us, and He has chosen us for Himself-not to build a sanctuary as Solomon did, but to be the temple of God. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that
God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
So we too should be strong and courageous and act for God Himself dwells within us.
