Today’s Bible Reading:
Exodus 34; John 13; Proverbs 10: Ephesians 3

Imagine hearing God speak to you about Himself.  We have that in the Bible, but Moses had quite a unique experience.  I always make note of what God has to say about Himself-this is how we get to know Him.
“Then the LORD passed by in front of him [Moses] and proclaimed, ‘The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin: yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.’”  Moses’ response to God?  “Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship.” (Exodus 34:6-8)

We often hear how the God of the Old Testament is full of wrath, but the God of the New Testament is all about love.  Well here we have God speaking in the Old Testament about who He is and foremost here is His great love and compassion for people.

When I came to my reading in Ephesians this morning there is another man who is bowing before God-Paul.  And Paul wants us to be strengthened with power through the Spirit of God so that Christ may dwell richly in our hearts, so that we being rooted and grounded in God’s great love may be able to comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that we may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Seems fitting now to close with Paul’s words, “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21, NSAB)  From Moses to Paul to we here today; God has remained the same.

Grace, peace, and mercy,
Debra
