Today's Reading:Genesis 28:6-30:24
...the more they stay the same. I know this was a much different time but today's reading really leaves me scratching my head; and this is Jesus famliy tree! And I find it interesting that He comes through the line born to Leah and not Rachel. Leah has never been the heroine of this story in most eyes, we always root for Jacob and Rachel because it is such an amazing love story-though kind of messed up when you think about it.
As I pondered the story of Jacob that familiar phrase came to me:The more things change the more they stay the same. People have not changed at all. In Genesis 28:20-22 Jacob states that IF God will indeed do what He says, if He will grant Jacob safety and success then Jacob will let God be his God. I thought immediately of the people who surrounded Jesus-show us a sign and then we will believe. But Jesus stated in Matthew 16:4, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.
We are really not so different today. We will "let" God be our God if He does what we want Him to do. But these words keep ringing through my head this morning, "Thy will be done." He is God and I am not.
