Psalm 119 has long been a favorite of mine. It speaks to me about the importance of God’s Word and the way that I should view it, desire it, understand it, follow it. I cannot help but think of Daniel and how he asked for understanding of the visions that disturbed him so-and God answered that request in an amazing way, sending an angel to tell him what it all meant. Or Solomon’s request for wisdom and how God answered that making him the wisest among men. I was thinking as I was reading the selection from Daniel this morning how much of it I just do not understand, and maybe I too should pray for understanding, but then a goofy thought hit; that no, I better not, for I am not prepared to have an angel come to reveal anything to me.
Silliness aside, Psalm 119 is full of requests that I desire to lay before God the Father, giver of all good gifts. So I pray:
Teach me Your ways. O God, that I may walk in your Truth.
Give me understanding that I may walk in righteousness.
Strengthen me according to Your word and remove any false ways from my life.
Teach me Your ways, O LORD, that I may be faithful to the end.
Give me understanding of Your word and help me to keep it with all of my heart.
Make me walk in your righteousness and take delight in doing so.
Incline my heart to You, and never to dishonest gain…be the treasure that I seek.
Turn my eyes away from vain things.
Establish Your word to Your servant as that which produces reverence for You.
May Your lovingkindness come to me, Oh LORD; Your salvation according to Your word.
