Today’s Bible Reading: Job 24-28
“From where, then, does wisdom come?
And where is the place of understanding?" -Job 28:20
“God understands the way to it,
and he knows its place.
For he looks to the ends of the earth
and sees everything under the heavens.
When he gave to the wind its weight
and apportioned the waters by measure,
when he made a decree for the rain
and a way for the lightning of the thunder,
then he saw it and declared it;
he established it, and searched it out.
And he said to man,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
and to turn away from evil is understanding.’” -Job 28: 23-28
Does this sound familiar? It puts me in mind of Proverbs 9:10,
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
It seems key when we are suffering that we keep our minds fixed on God. I have had to remind myself often that though I struggle understand why something so painful is happening, God sees the beginning from the end. He already knows what lies ahead and from that vantage point I can trust in His wisdom to accomplish His will. Oh, but it is not at all easy. When we read Job it only affirms that. Life is not always easy, life is not always fair, but God remains on His throne and He is Lord of all and so we press on because out great hope yet awaits. And that hope is not a release from the suffering that comes in this life, but the amazing life that is yet to come. A life where there will be no more sorrow, no more tears, no more death.
To God be the glory,
