Today’s Bible Reading: Job 14-16
in churches today. A righteous person is not supposed to suffer this way. When we follow Jesus all is supposed to be well. The problem is, that is a false assumption. Usually when I read through Job
I say some little tongue in cheek prayer to God that if He would just keep me out of His conversations with Satan I would be most grateful.
What makes today’s reading seem particularly sad is that Job views death as the end. We know that is not the case as followers of Jesus Christ. We know that when we breath our last on this earth we will join Christ in heaven for eternity. Life will go on in a way that is so far beyond what we can imagine.
So what strikes me about Job, is that despite not seeming to have this hope, He still puts his faith in God. He will not be moved from that position come what may. And I think about the words of that great hymn: “When sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.”
To God be the glory,
